Proper Home Maintenance Tips

Home maintenance is something people often avoid and try to replace it with thorough spring cleaning. But all the procrastination actually leads to some very bad results which you should do all you can to avoid. Mould, for instance, if left alone, can cover up quite a bit of your house and do some serious damage to the house’s safety before the time for spring cleaning comes. And mould is something that could turn up in various places which you rarely check when not cleaning. But you should avoid its accumulation altogether, and you can do it just by putting some effort into regular cleaning routines. Here are some tips on how to do that and make your life easier.

Proper Home Maintenance Tips

  • Don’t do it too often. The cleaning routines shouldn’t be daily, and you could spend more than a week leaving the house to take care of itself. But you should definitely spend one day cleaning in every two weeks. This is the minimal if you don’t want your family swimming in dust.
  • Go one room at a time. Even if you do it often, don’t clean the whole place, just focus on separate rooms for each week – this way you can save both time and effort.
  • Dust often. One way to avoid all the thorough cleaning is avoiding the need for it by doing small cleanings daily or at least a few times a week. Dusting is always a good idea to avoid breathing dead skin flakes (yes, that’s right – that is 70% of dust’s contents), and vacuuming will prevent spreading dirt and diseases around the house. Consider the latter even more if you have pets.
  • Watch out for moist. Be careful not to keep any surface damp, because that is the main reason mould appears. Cleaning mould is quite tiresome, and it could to a lot of damage to furniture, not to mention that it is an ugly sight. So dry everything that you think is not dry, and keep it that way to avoid mouldy places. The same goes for metal surfaces and rust. Rust can be quite dangerous if you have metal shelves or fasteners, for instance – a little accumulation can start crumbling them and things can start falling on your family’s heads.
  • Keep the windows clean. Give your windows a good scrubbing every now and then to let all the daylight in and keep your home bright. Remember to clean both sides – many people end up cleaning only the inside and then wondering why the effect is not so great.
  • Leave no stones unturned. When looking for mould, look everywhere. You will be surprised at where it could appear, especially if you spilled a glass of water and it spread to some distant kitchen corner behind a counter. Sometimes it could even be a neighbour’s fault, if you are living in a flat; your mouldy wall could very well be the result of your neighbour’s negligence. Read more at: highburycarpetcleaners.org.uk
