About Victorian Colleges and Student Unions

Student unions allow pupils to bond with each other as members of student organizations. Whether these organizations exist for a specific service or are an amalgam of individuals sharing the same major and working toward the same careers, student unions offer guidance, social activities, and camaraderie to those who join them.

About Victorian Colleges and Student Unions

In Australia, and especially in Victoria, the evolution of student unions occurred simultaneously with evolving political times. For instance, during the time that the labor union movement swept the country, a lot of students formed labor groups to demonstrate their solidarity. Though at first comprised of wealthier students, at about halfway through the 20th century, students of a more meager background began joining the unions. Along with the change in economic student base came the change of unions into stronger and more vocal advocates of activism. Most of the activism sprang from political activities and issues.

About Victorian Colleges and Student Unions

In the past, many students held that unions provided unique benefits. In spite of this, today many student unions are no more, and membership in those that still exist continues to decrease in Victorian colleges while the years go by. Student unions have served to increase political participation and political literacy among members.

Several unions published newspapers to keep the readers informed about issues important to the union producing the paper. A lot of these unions delivered a great impact upon political campaigns, due to their wide influence. This influence appears to be declining along with student union membership levels.
